Walney Churches
Together
The representatives of the Roman
Catholic, the Anglican
and the Methodist Churches on
Walney Island have committed ourselves to:
- Working together through prayer and worship of God as
Father, Son and Holy Spirit, through service to the
community and through united social events, to present a
clear witness to the people of Walney.
- Respect the richness of each of the traditions (Roman
Catholic, Baptist, Methodist and Anglican) whilst being
open to the insights gained by entering into that
experience of each others prayer and worship.
- Engage in events that will deepen the spiritual life of
Walney Island.
- Pray for each other, foster relationships between
denominations, and deepen our mutual understanding.
Here are some of the ways in which our Ecumenical Partnership
is expressed:
- An annual weekend at Rydal
Hall
- A quarterly united service.
- A weekly Morning Prayer.
- A monthly clergy meeting.
- A united Christmas musical presentation.
- Ecumenical Bible study groups.
- Ecumenical Lent and Advent groups
- Ecumenical quiet days and prayer guiding courses
- Joint support for the Credit Union
- Ecumenical Magazine (The Bridge) sponsored by all the
churches and going monthly to almost every home on the island.
- Ecumenical social evenings.
- Preparation for Christian Initiation is undertaken
jointly wherever possible.
Pilgrim Prayer:
Lord God, we thank you
For calling us into the company of those
Who trust in Christ and seek to do his will.
May your Spirit guide and strengthen us
In mission and service to your world;
For we are strangers no longer
But pilgrims together on the way to your Kingdom.
